Today, more than ever before, parents want to stay home with their young children. Many of these same families invest money in a personal computer and now want that computer to produce an income for them.
You can use your computer to produce an income, however the computer is only a business tool, much like a pen or pencil are each a business tool.
This article will explore five ways with which you can use your computer to aid you in producing an income from home.
Affiliate Marketing: Ten years ago, no one had heard this term. Today, it's the rage. So what exactly is affiliate marketing? Well, let's break down the two words. Affiliate means to be attached or associated with. Marketing means to sell. So, let's say you are an affiliate for Walmart. You would be attached or associated with them. In other words you form a relationship with them, where you sell their products and they pay you a commission. Walmart is just one of the thousands of companies that allow you to join as an affiliate. When someone clicks the Walmart link on your page and makes a purchase you earn. As of this writing, the commission structure for this one company is between 5% and 12%. Not bad for having someone click through and buy. Keep in mind, you'll need visitors to your site in order to find folks who want to click your ad. But this is what affiliate marketing is all about.
Virtual Assistant: This is yet another phrase that 10 years ago, no one had heard of. A virtual assistant is similar to an administrative assistant, the difference being the work is done at home, not in office. Here is just a partial list of what virtual assistants are hired to do:
Word Processing
Data Entry
Article Submission
Proof Reading
Ad Placing
Data Entry
Document Production
Business Card Design
Flyer Design Letter Writing
These are all services you can offer via your computer and can complete using your computer. Many women I know have gone into virtual assisting as it's very flexible for those with children.
Writer: More and more folks today are becoming freelance writers. People are writing poetry, short stories, magazine articles and ebooks. I own at least a dozen ebooks. Some were given to me as gifts, some were free and some were purchased. I actually have an ebook I'm working on right now. There are now article sites online that pay you for your articles.
Medical Billing and Bookkeeping: Many women today have bookkeeping and billing services they run right out of their home. Keep in mind that bookkeeping and billing are the lifeline to any business, so business owners will not place this job into the hands of someone without experience. If you have experience in billing or bookkeeping consider purchasing the latest software and marketing your services to small businesses. Check help wanted ads for part time bookkeeper jobs in your local area. Market your services. Offer to come in once a week, while doing the remainder of your work at home.
Sell on ebay: This is one avenue that many sellers have chosen because of the name brand. Ebay is known world wide. You can sell literally anything on ebay. I have purchased crochet patterns which were nothing more than pages ripped out of a magazine. However I wanted the pattern and so I was willing to pay the price. I've purchased scrapbook supplies. I've purchased multi line phones for work. My daughter has sold products on ebay. She has visited garage sales and then resold those wares. She has purchased items on sale with coupons in stores and then sold those items. There are no limits on the items you can sell on ebay.
These are just 5 ways you can put your computer to work for you and make money at home with the use of your computer. The sky's the limit when it comes to what you can do to earn an income.

How To Evaluate Lead Companies
For many years I have been involved in direct sales and have used leads to build my business. I have tried so many lead companies out there and have come across both the good ones and the bad ones. Finding the right lead company is going to affect your entire experience with lead buying.
Here are eight important items to consider when purchasing leads from a lead company:
1) Check the testimonials. See what others are saying about the leads. If you don’t see testimonials on the website, ask the lead company owner to sent you a few testimonials.
2) Make sure the company has a working phone number and email address. The email address should be a business email, not an @hotmail.com or @gmail.com address.
3) Ask for referrals from others that you know who are buying leads. Ask them where they bought their leads. Ask them to share their experiences.
4) If you have a suspicious feeling about that company then find another company. Go by your gut feeling. If you suspect something is not right, chances are your hunch is worth following.
5) Compare prices with other companies. Make sure you are comparing like type leads. Some leads have confirmed phone numbers, some do not. Some have confirmed email addresses, some do not. Compare like leads when doing your price comparisons.
6) If the lead company offers FREE leads to test them out, take advantage. Try the leads and see how they work out for you.
7) Ask the company how many times their leads are sold. This is really important. If you are the 9th person to call a lead, that lead is not going to be very receptive.
8) Ask how the company is advertising to get the lead. You will find from time to time that you are calling people that just want to win something free. It's a waste of time to keep calling these people. You'll also find that leads thought they were signing up for a newsletter. Know how the company is advertising.
Each of these steps can help you in making a decision of where to buy your leads from. By following these steps you will have the best response from the leads you do buy.

I would rather see someone write 3 articles per week versus placing 100 free classified ads in a week.

If you sell dietary supplements, write health and wellness articles. Again, those who read your articles are going to be people looking for the very product you offer. If you sell make up and skin care, write articles about fashion and beauty.
Who do you want to visit your site? You want potential customers and potential new sales distributors to visit your site. So, how can you make sure that those coming to your site want what you are offering? Write about the topics that relate to what you are selling. Those who search for your articles or find your articles through a keyword search are interested in what you are offering. Parents need toys. Have you got yourself into a home business opportunity but don't know where to begin to generate yourself some leads? That happens among many of us that join a home business opportunity, you are not alone. Many will join and give up before really putting any effort into the business. Those who are determined will put forth effort and succeed with effort.
When you become a home based business owner, you will want to get the word out. First off, tell the people in your warm market, your friends and family and maybe even co-workers. Don't stop there. Create yourself some business cards on your computer or even order some online. Vistaprint.com offers 250 professional cards FREE of charge, you just pay the small shipping and handling fee. I have found these FREE cards very useful. What I would do is order some professional cards to hand out to those you come in contact with. Then if you can, create a bunch on your computer that you will use as drop cards. Drop cards are business cards that you leave everywhere you go. Remember, nobody will visit your site if they can't find you. The more cards you get out to the public, the better chance of getting someone interested in what you have to offer.
You might be thinking that you don't know anyone to give business cards too, well if you think that you are wrong. Include a card in everything you send out in the mail. If you dine out, leave one with your tip. Always keep a stack in your car as you just never know when you will need one. There are many places you can leave cards, the sky is the limit.
Drive your car a lot? Why not use your vehicle as a method of advertising. I did this last year by buying two magnets for each side of my vehicle's door. The magnets have a few bright colors on them, therefore catching attention. Be sure you magnet says something catchy and make sure you have ways of contact on your magnet. Be sure to include a phone number and your website link if you have one. I got mine online and very affordable at http://www.jalapenodesigns.com/.
Another great method in generating leads is by online advertising. You got to do your research first before jumping into this one. You will find you can place ads on all sorts of websites and online newsletters. My preference would be placing ads in newsletters. Be sure that the ad is placed in your "niche" market. Don't place an ad on a site or newsletter that is not similar to your companies market. Also, when placing ads on websites, be sure to ask the webmaster what their unique daily or monthly visitors is, not the hits. Most people, not familiar to webstats will look for the hits which is not an accurate number of the visitors to a website. Remember to do your research first, there is LOTS of places online that you can WASTE your hard earned money.
One of my favorite ways on generating visitors to my sites is through online message forums and discussion groups. There are millions of forums online. The forums range from every kind of topic you can think of. Find a message forum on a topic you can relate to and become an expert in that topic. Most forums will let you put a signature line at the end of your post. You will be surprised the amount of visitors that will come to your site coming from a signature line in a post. I have been very successful with this method and have tracked my website stats verify it. It won't bring in millions of visitors, but it's better then nothing.
And lastly, don't forget your signature line of your emails. If you send emails all the time and don't have a signature file that goes out with each email, you are losing out on lots of free advertising opportunities. If you are the type of person that receives lots of say joke emails and forwards them, you are missing out on even more advertising. Have you got yourself into a home business opportunity but don't know where to begin to generate yourself some leads? That happens among many of us that join a home business opportunity, you are not alone. Many will join and give up before really putting any effort into the business. Those who are determined will put forth effort and succeed with effort.
When you become a home based business owner, you will want to get the word out. First off, tell the people in your warm market, your friends and family and maybe even co-workers. Don't stop there. Create yourself some business cards on your computer or even order some online. Vistaprint.com offers 250 professional cards FREE of charge, you just pay the small shipping and handling fee. I have found these FREE cards very useful. What I would do is order some professional cards to hand out to those you come in contact with. Then if you can, create a bunch on your computer that you will use as drop cards. Drop cards are business cards that you leave everywhere you go. Remember, nobody will visit your site if they can't find you. The more cards you get out to the public, the better chance of getting someone interested in what you have to offer.
You might be thinking that you don't know anyone to give business cards too, well if you think that you are wrong. Include a card in everything you send out in the mail. If you dine out, leave one with your tip. Always keep a stack in your car as you just never know when you will need one. There are many places you can leave cards, the sky is the limit.
Drive your car a lot? Why not use your vehicle as a method of advertising. I did this last year by buying two magnets for each side of my vehicle's door. The magnets have a few bright colors on them, therefore catching attention. Be sure you magnet says something catchy and make sure you have ways of contact on your magnet. Be sure to include a phone number and your website link if you have one. I got mine online and very affordable at http://www.jalapenodesigns.com/.
Another great method in generating leads is by online advertising. You got to do your research first before jumping into this one. You will find you can place ads on all sorts of websites and online newsletters. My preference would be placing ads in newsletters. Be sure that the ad is placed in your "niche" market. Don't place an ad on a site or newsletter that is not similar to your companies market. Also, when placing ads on websites, be sure to ask the webmaster what their unique daily or monthly visitors is, not the hits. Most people, not familiar to webstats will look for the hits which is not an accurate number of the visitors to a website. Remember to do your research first, there is LOTS of places online that you can WASTE your hard earned money.
One of my favorite ways on generating visitors to my sites is through online message forums and discussion groups. There are millions of forums online. The forums range from every kind of topic you can think of. Find a message forum on a topic you can relate to and become an expert in that topic. Most forums will let you put a signature line at the end of your post. You will be surprised the amount of visitors that will come to your site coming from a signature line in a post. I have been very successful with this method and have tracked my website stats verify it. It won't bring in millions of visitors, but it's better then nothing.
And lastly, don't forget your signature line of your emails. If you send emails all the time and don't have a signature file that goes out with each email, you are losing out on lots of free advertising opportunities. If you are the type of person that receives lots of say joke emails and forwards them, you are missing out on even more advertising. Signature advertising has proven to be an excellent (free) advertising source for online marketers today.
What is a signature?
A signature is a block of text at the end of your forum/newsgroup messages or emails. It includes your name, a brief blurb or saying about you and/or your business, and a link to your website or business.
What is signature advertising?
Signature advertising is simply including your signature in your postings on forums/newsgroups and at the end of any emails you send out. It is a proven fact that about 75% of people on the Internet today will click on your signature links. And it's 100% free advertising!
To make the most out of signature advertising, (if you intend on advertising through message forums or newsgroups), you need to subscribe to as many of them as possible that relate to your website or business. Always make for sure you read the posting and signature rules on each forum...important! If rules are not followed, you could be banned.
Once you have joined the forums, don't forget to create your signature.
Important Note: Always make for sure you have "always include your signature" ticked on all your profiles in each of the forums. This way, your signature will always automatically appear after all your posts. Also always make for sure you follow the character length rules in your signature in all forums.
Catchy link titles:
It is important to have catchy link titles in your signatures to entice the members to click on your links. Try different ones....create link titles with short word phrases that relate to your website or business. Signature advertising has prooven to be effective over and over again, especially in message forums. Try and make your links as creative as possible, to try and perk the readers attention and make them want to click on your link.
In message forums (related to your website or business) start out by participating in conversations...answering questions, sharing advice/tips, welcoming new members to the forums, and just having fun getting to know the other members. There is usually a folder in the forums where you are allowed to enter your ad for your website or business promotion. Please always read any rules for those ad postings.
Important Note: It is always important to begin in each forum by FIRST...introducing yourself and telling a little about your business and what you do from home. In this introduction, leave out any ads. The Introduction folder in message forums is for getting to know other members and sharing a little bit about yourself and is not intended for ads. If you do include an ad or affiliate link in the Introduction folders, it will most likely be deleted by the administrator.
Another effective signature advertising method is including your signature with a link to your website or business at the end of all of your out-going email messages. You will be surprised at how many people click on these links.
Once you get a good amount of signature links out there in the public eye, you will soon discover more and more traffic to your website. This could mean sales for your business, someone interested in networking with you...a number of things.

Web traffic makes the world go ‘round. We all want it. We all need it. So, let’s go and get it!
I was chatting with some friends and they asked me…

Tips on Increasing Your Newsletter Subscribers
Do you own an online newsletter and you are trying to gain subscribers to it? You have built the website for it and you have your subscription box in place, but nobody is subscribing? Don't worry, you are not alone. There are many others out there asking themselves what it is that they are doing wrong.
Below are some things you can do, to increase the subscribers to your newsletter.
Tip #1 Give them something FREE. If possible give them more then one freebie. Offer your subscribers a free report, free ebook, free ad on your site, etc. They will come if you are giving them something. A good name for these type of freebies is "BONUSES". The better the package you give them, the more likely they will subscribe.
Tip #2 Submit your newsletter to newsletter/ezine directories. This may be time consuming, but it will pay off in the long run. You want your newsletter/ezine listed on as many directories as you can. You may also try using newsletter submission services to speed up this process if you don't have time to manually add them to all the directories.
Tip #3 Offer a monthly contest on your website. To be eligible to win the contest make a requirement that they must be subscribed to your newsletter. Once you have your contest in place, promote your contest on other sites, gaining more traffic to your newsletter and more signups.
Tip #4 Swap newsletter ads with other newsletter publishers. What you will want to do is find newsletters that's audience will enjoy your newsletter and ask the publisher if they want to swap ads. This is very common amongst publishers. You can also look online for publishers looking for ad swaps. I have been in many message forums where there are topics of ad swaps.
Tip #5 Promote your newsletter in your email signature. This is also known as a sig file. It is usually three to six lines at the end of your email. This is a great FREE spot to advertise on, so use a signature file each time you send out an email. Most email programs are setup to allow you to setup a signature file that will be automatically added to each of your emails.
Tip #6 Visit forums and message boards and start posting. You will want to find forums that you enjoy and make yourself known to the community. Make yourself credible and other forum members will want to look at what you have to offer. Add your link in your signature file in the forums if permitted. You will want to read the rules of each forum before you post. You will see that this brings valuable traffic to your sites the more that you post. I have gained significant traffic to my sites through this type of promoting.

Keep planting your seeds all over and soon you will have a big list of subscribers. Obtaining a large list doesn't happen over night, so don't get discouraged. Becoming a Leader in Direct Sales
Direct sales is all about creating sales. You’ll create personal sales retailing the company products to individual customers and you’ll create team sales by building a team and supporting their sales efforts.
In order to lead a team, you’ll need to develop and learn some leadership skills.
Leadership is learned. We are not born with leadership skills. Think of the many leaders you know. There are leaders in your local PTA. There are leaders in your community. There are world leaders. Each leader we know learned the skills that brought them to be the leader they are today.
There are several ways to learn leadership skills:
1. Read books - Our local bookstore has an entire section on leadership. I’ve read books by several different authors. You’ll find that men and women teach a little bit differently and you’ll find that depending on profession, skills may be taught a bit differently also. If finances don’t allow a book budget right now, use your local library. I’ve found some real gems at our library.
2. Subscribe to newsletters – One of my favorite authors is John Maxwell. Not only have I read most of his books, I also subscribe to his newsletter. Each newsletter offers new ideas and new food for thought.
3. Attend seminars – Over the years I’ve attended seminars ranging from how to deal with difficult people to how to improve your listening skills. There are so many topics out there to choose from. Not only will these seminars help you become a better leader, but they will help you in every relationship you are involved in, business and personal.
So what are some of the topics you should consider learning about?
1. Listening – I know that we all have two ears and we all hear, however really listening to the person speaking is a learned skill.
2. Communicating – I continue to learn more and more about communication. It is such a fine art. Each person we speak to and interact with is unique. How we communicate with one person may not be the same as how we communicate with another person. Learning how to effectively get our message to each unique individual is key in leading a team.
3. Problem solving – If you are in direct sales, problems will come up. For example, it’s December and a top selling product has become unavailable. You need the skills to be able to help your team accept this in a positive way so that sales are not lost. You need to be able to help your team present this small obstacle to their customers, so that they also will not lose the potential sales.
Consider investing 30-60 minutes per week into learning and developing your leadership skills to help you build a larger direct sales team.
